The coins in the 2002 4-Coin Gold Proof Sovereign Set have a special shield design to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The design only appeared on Sovereigns in 2002.
These proof coins are struck from 22 carat gold and are pound sterling coins, making them CGT exempt.
The set includes a quintuple, double, full and half Sovereign, all dated 2002. Each coin is struck up to 6 times to produce a stunning proof finish.
The issue limit of the set is 3,000.
The obverse design is by Ian Rank-Broadley. It shows the fourth coniage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The shield was designed by Timothy Noad and shows the shield of the Royal Arms. The design is reminiscent of the 1838 reverse struck during Queen Victoria’s reign.
